In this Complete Guide to Pioneer Woman Cookware, we’ll learn who the Pioneer Woman is and whether it is worth investing in her cookware. As an extremely successful blogger and tv personality, she has endorsed many products. It’s time to separate the wheat from the chaff and see if it’s safe to put all your eggs in one basket.
Who Is The Pioneer Woman?
Anne Marie (Ree) Drummond is a blogger, television personality, author, and food writer. She lives in Oklahoma with her husband on their more than 400,000-acre ranch.
Drummond became famous for her wildly popular blog, The Pioneer Woman, which she started in 2006.
Drummond wrote about life on their enormous ranch, homeschooling their five children, her marriage, and food recipes with many photographs showing step-by-step instructions to guide you through the process.
She didn’t start writing food recipes until she was a year into writing her blog, but it took off once she did. By 2009 her blog was receiving 13 million page views a month, and in 2011 it rose to 23.3 million.
The success of her blog became the platform to start launching cookbooks. She published her first cookbook in 2009 and has since written 15 books altogether, and not all of them are cookbooks.
She wrote a series of children’s books about a ranch dog named Charlie and a couple of books about a girl named Ree growing up on a ranch.
Drummond made her television debut on Throw Down With Bobby Flay in 2010 on the Food Network. The following year the Food Network released her show, The Pioneer Woman, as a daytime television series.
The Pioneer Woman has been nominated and won many awards throughout her career. Nearly all of them are related to her blog.
In 2015, Pioneer Woman partnered with Walmart to release her cookware line. Her ranch-inspired cookware has been a massive success, with people looking to put a little country flare in their kitchens.
The Pioneer Woman has since extended its brand into bedding, dinnerware, and kitchen appliances.
What is Pioneer Woman Cookware?
Pioneer Woman Cookware is inspired by Ree Drummond’s life on her family ranch. The cookware looks like it came straight from the countryside with a big helping of buttered mashed potatoes and fried chicken.
I have to applaud whoever chose the design and aesthetic for the Pioneer Woman. They look like they were purchased at a flea market, or it was the cookware you watched your grandmother use growing up. The only difference is, it’s brand new, not faded and scratched.
Though Ree Drummond praises cast iron and uses it quite a bit in her recipes, the bulk of her sets come with nonstick pots and pans. They also offer a lot of dinnerware options to match their vintage cookware sets.
What are the best Pioneer Woman Cookware sets?
There are many Pioneer Woman Cookware sets to choose from, so we did a round-up of our favorite sets that will make any home cook happy.
The Pioneer Woman 24-Piece Cookware Combo Set In
The Pioneer Woman 24 piece combo set comes with everything you would need to get cooking. It has three cast iron pieces (pre-seasoned), two nonstick saute pans, and a collection of sauce and stockpots. The nonstick pieces are made from aluminum with silicon handles, and the pots have tempered glass lids.
The wooden spoons are made from acacia wood, the spatula is made from nylon, and the measuring spoons and bowls are made from ceramic. The ceramic bowls and spoons are designed with a country flair to help give your kitchen a homey feel. The separate silicon handles are made to grab the cast iron pans when they are piping hot.
“I had bought this set 4 years ago at Walmart on the Black Friday sale!! Amazing price at $70, and here I am 4 years later and just bought my 2nd set. I don’t think I will switch brands unless this 2nd set doesn’t last as long as the 1st set! This is a good price on Amazon considering everything it comes with and how long it lasts!” -Steven Rivera, Amazon Customer.
The Pioneer Woman Vintage Speckle 10 Piece NonStick Cookware Set
This ten-piece set is excellent to buy if you are in need of some sauce and stock pots, but not necessarily saute pans. The speckled vintage outer coating looks great and is stylish.
The extra-deep frying pan is fantastic for cooking in large batches and will probably become your go-to piece when it’s dinner time. They’re great for cooking a big batch of spaghetti sauce or even searing a bunch of chicken. I’ve even cooked soup in one just like it.
Be sure to wash all your pieces by hand to prolong the nonstick surface. The ceramic dish that comes with the set is excellent for when you’re serving meals family-style.
All pieces are made from aluminum, so they are sturdy, heat up evenly, and cook food well. The handles are made from silicone and are heat resistant. Each piece is oven-safe up to 400 degrees, and the tempered glass lids are oven safe up to 350 degrees.
“I bought this set of pans a year ago I love them. Only thing is you must pay attention when washing the kids. Because the food you cook gets stuck between the glass and the metal lid. When first cooked in the skillet spaghetti. I washed the lid and when I went to use the skillet again I noticed that some of the sauce was stuck under the lid glass and metal rim edge. So make sure everyone to clean the lid with care. All an all the pans are very good.” -P. Lopez, Amazon Customer
The Pioneer Woman Classic Belly 10-Piece Cookware Set, OCEAN TEAL
The Classic Belly 10 piece set looks great. The curved sides of the cookware give it an old country feel. The ceramic nonstick interior is excellent for those of you looking to be more health-conscious.
You might need to buy a different saute pan because the collection consists primarily of sauce and soup pots. But with the added cast iron skillet, it can perform what many other pans can’t, like searing meat and handling high heat.
All the cookware, except the cast iron, has an aluminum core, while the outsides are a beautiful porcelain ocean teal that fades to a lighter color going up the cookware. They are oven safe up to 400 degrees unless it’s with the tempered glass lids, which are oven safe up to 350 degrees. Hand washing is recommended.
The handles are made from soft silicone and make handling the pans comfortable. The nonstick cooking surface is POFA and PTFE-free. This set is not induction compatible.
“Nothing sticks to these, I’ve been amazed at their slick coating, and they are beautiful! I have been super careful not to use any metal utensils, not to cool them off too fast or heat them too fast, never in the dishwasher, but somehow I have a chip in one of them already. 🙁 I guess that’s to be expected, but just wasn’t expecting it in the first month. My last set up pans cost literally over $1,000. They were Tupperware and I kept them way longer than I should have because the coating was flaking off, but they were so expensive, I didn’t want to get rid of them. With these, if they start flaking off, I won’t feel quite as bad because they were $100. I guess no matter how much you spend on pans, they will not be safe to use forever….” -Guy and Elle, Amazon Customer
How Do The Pioneer Woman Cookware Sets Perform?
The performance of Pioneer Woman cookware appears to be very middle of the road. It’s what you would expect from a low-priced, Wal-Mart-focused brand. The nonstick works great so long as you care for it properly, but I wouldn’t presume it will last a long time.
The thing that makes Pioneer Woman cookware stand out from similarly priced cookware brands is its design and aesthetic. If you want to give your kitchen a cozy, country, down-home feel, then this is the brand for you.
A few things to remember when using any brand of nonstick cookware.
The first is that you cannot use high heat. High heat and nonstick do not get along. It has the possibility of releasing harmful chemicals from the nonstick coating, and high heat will usually scorch the cooking surface.
Second, be sure to always wash afterward by hand. Pioneer Woman claims to be dishwasher safe, and I’m sure that it is, but the nonstick coating will last a lot longer if you use a soft washcloth or sponge by hand. Do not use a brillo-type cleaning pad either.
Third, always use nonmetal cooking utensils. Metal will gouge the cooking surface, and the moment that happens, your cookware is ruined.
Be careful when sticking the nonstick pieces in the oven. They are only oven-safe up to 400 degrees, and the lids are only safe up to 350 degrees. People report that the silicone handles give off a strong smell of hot plastic when put in the oven, and afterward, they hold high heat for a long time. Always use an oven mitt when sticking things in the oven.
What Is The Best Pioneer Cookware Set For Me?
When deciding which Pioneer Woman Cookware set is best for your kitchen, be sure to look at what you already have and then at what cookware you don’t have. Also, what kinds of food do you like to eat?
If you find that you sear a lot of meats and saute a lot of veggies, then look for a set with a lot of saute pans. If you eat a lot of pasta, mashed potatoes and like making soups or sauces look for sets with sauce and stockpots.
I will say that a set that comes with any cast iron pieces is a good buy. The nonstick pans will eventually stop working, but cast iron lasts forever. If you take care of cast iron correctly, you can hand those down to your grandkids.
The Pioneer Woman Cookware sets make fantastic gifts. Many newlyweds or people who are purchasing their first home would love a present like this to help settle them into their new life.
